The Security Service of Ukraine has detained a Russian informant in the Kharkiv region, identified as a 62-year-old resident of Izyum. This individual assisted the Russian military command in planning offensive operations in the area.
According to reports, he monitored and relayed geolocations of Ukrainian troops defending this strategically important front.
The occupiers were particularly interested in command posts, fortified areas, fuel and ammunition depots, as well as artillery positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Based on the informant's coordinates, the enemy intended to launch massive strikes using combat drones and heavy guided bombs.
Additionally, the occupiers hoped to leverage reconnaissance data to identify key directions for ground attacks on the defensive lines of Ukrainian defenders.
To communicate with Russian special services, the agent used an anonymous chat in a messenger, where he sent cartographic markers of potential "targets" with detailed descriptions.
Cyber specialists from the SBU uncovered the covert connection of the informant with the occupiers, documented his espionage activities, and arrested him.
It was revealed that the individual attracted the attention of the occupiers by posting his anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram channels.
The man walked around the city and its outskirts, recording the locations of defense forces on his smartphone, and later summarized the collected data for the enemy.
During searches, a mobile phone containing evidence of his work for the Russian Federation was seized from the detainee.
Investigators from the Security Service informed him of his suspicion under Part 2 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized dissemination of information about the location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during martial law).
The offender is currently in custody without the right to bail, facing up to 8 years in prison.
The comprehensive measures were conducted by SBU officers in the Kharkiv region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
