Shooting Incident During Local Conflict

A shooting incident unfolded in Kyiv when an individual opened fire during a dispute with local residents, injuring two men. He faces up to 7 years in prison. 
The event took place late at night near a residential building on the European Union Avenue in the Podil district.
The 40-year-old suspect was consuming alcohol with friends and incited a conflict with passersby. During the altercation, he brandished a pistol and fired at two men aged 39 and 37. One sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, while the other was shot in the abdomen.
After the incident, the suspect fled but was quickly identified and apprehended by the police. He was found to be a resident of the same area.
Authorities conducted a search at the suspect's residence and seized a traumatic pistol. He was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine.
Investigators, under the supervision of the Podil District Prosecutor's Office, have charged him with committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - a gross violation of public order motivated by blatant disrespect for society, using a weapon. This offense carries a penalty of up to seven years of imprisonment.
