Several years ago, a criminal moved to Kyiv from occupied Crimea. In search of «easy» money, he contacted a «curator» from the aggressor country, who promised to pay him for setting military vehicles on fire. The accused faces up to ten years in prison.
At the beginning of October this year, the capital's police received reports of two military SUVs being set on fire: an Isuzu Trooper and a Ford, parked on the streets. At that time, the police identified a 34-year-old native of Simferopol as the perpetrator.
According to the head of the Shevchenkivsky Police Department, Ihor Padiuk, investigators, together with operatives and criminal analysis staff, found out that in 2014, after the annexation of Crimea, the offender remained living in the temporarily occupied territory and obtained a Russian passport:
«Subsequently, in 2021, he moved to Kyiv and at the beginning of the full-scale invasion joined the territorial defense. After that, he voluntarily left the service and, in search of «easy» money, contacted a «curator» from the aggressor country, who promised him money for destroying military vehicles. Thus, the criminal purchased flammable liquid and set fire to two military vehicles. The crimes were committed by a 34-year-old native of Simferopol, who was soon detained by operatives in cooperation with criminal analysis specialists.»
At that time, investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Shevchenkivsky District Prosecutor's Office, informed the suspect of charges under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional destruction of property by arson. During the investigation, the suspect was held in custody.
The pre-trial investigation has now been completed. The accused faces imprisonment for up to ten years.
