A woman who attempted to defraud a soldier for $18,000 is facing up to eight years in prison. She planned to arrange for the soldier's treatment at a medical facility where doctors would falsely diagnose him to facilitate his discharge from service.
Investigators from the Kyiv police, along with operatives, uncovered the 31-year-old woman who was trying to profit from a recently mobilized soldier.
In exchange for the money, she promised to assist in obtaining documents certifying the soldier's unfitness for service. The plan involved initially sending the 'client' for treatment at a military medical unit, followed by a transfer to a hospital where a diagnosis would be made.
She demanded the payment urgently, claiming the matter was critical and required immediate attention.
The fraudster was apprehended while receiving the money. Investigators from the Desnyanskyi Police Department charged her under Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. For abusing her influence, she faces up to eight years in prison along with asset confiscation.
The procedural oversight is being handled by the Desnyanskyi District Prosecutor's Office in Kyiv.
