A court case has begun in Kyiv against a man accused of a brutal attack on a 21-year-old woman in the entrance of an apartment building. The assailant, wearing a motorcycle helmet, waited for the victim by the elevator, sprayed her face with tear gas, and then struck her several times with a metal rod. He then stole her mobile phone and fled, but was soon apprehended by law enforcement. He faces up to fifteen years in prison.
In July, the 102 emergency line received a report of an assault on a 21-year-old woman in the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv. Responding officers quickly identified the suspect and arrested him. He turned out to be a 34-year-old resident of Kyiv.
During the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement determined that the attacker waited for the victim by the elevator, used tear gas on her, struck her multiple times with a metal rod, and took her smartphone.
Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Solomyanskyi District Prosecutor's Office, charged the suspect under part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – robbery combined with violence dangerous to life and health, committed under martial law.
The investigation is now complete, and the indictment has been sent to court. The accused faces up to fifteen years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
