An incident in Kyiv nearly resulted in tragedy when a man sustained severe injuries during a conflict fueled by alcohol consumption. The suspect now faces up to eight years in prison.
Recently, police received a call from residents of an apartment building in the Shevchenkivskyi district reporting an injured man lying on the staircase, asking for help. A rapid response team and investigative officers promptly arrived at the scene.
Upon arrival, authorities determined that the victim was a 64-year-old local resident who had been visiting his 45-year-old friend. The two men had been drinking together when a verbal dispute escalated. The apartment owner then assaulted the 64-year-old guest, striking him with his hands and feet before grabbing a metal disc and hitting him multiple times in the head.
The victim was hospitalized with multiple injuries and is currently in serious condition.
Police arrested the perpetrator under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and informed him of the suspicion for part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional grievous bodily harm.
According to the charges, the man faces up to eight years in prison. Investigators are petitioning the court to keep the suspect in custody during the investigation.
