The National Police prevented a murder attempt in the Sumy region. A man who had lived with a woman for a long time decided to take revenge on her. He found a hitman and handed over part of the money for the crime. Law enforcement staged a mock murder and sent the planner photos. The man was arrested during the transfer of the remaining funds — 10,000 dollars. He faces life imprisonment.
At the beginning of September, operatives from the Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police learned about an individual seeking a hitman. As a result of their efforts, they identified the planner and the intended victim and discovered the motives behind the murder plot.
The initiator turned out to be a 26-year-old resident of the Sumy region, who previously cohabited with a 24-year-old woman. The couple had parted ways, but due to jealousy and alleged financial issues during their relationship, the man planned to kill his ex-partner.
To exact revenge, he actively sought a perpetrator. The police intercepted the “order,” and all subsequent planning took place under law enforcement control.
The planner wanted his ex-partner to be stabbed in a café during a staged conflict, but the hitman insisted on using a firearm. After receiving the planner’s schedule and the potential victim's routes, the hitman provided the planner with a crime execution plan and received an advance of 15,000 hryvnias.
To save the woman's life, the police conducted a special operation, staging her murder. The hitman sent the planner photographs of the “victim,” after which the parties agreed on the final payment.
It was during the transfer of the second installment of 10,000 dollars that operatives detained the mastermind behind the murder attempt under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The funds were seized at the scene.
The suspect has been informed of charges under Part 2 of Article 15, Part 3 of Article 27, Clause 11 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (organization and preparation for intentional murder), and the court has selected a preventive measure of custody for 60 days without the right to bail.
The penalty for the charges can be imprisonment for up to fifteen years or life imprisonment.
Preventive measures against intentional murder were carried out jointly with the operational unit of the State Criminal-Executive Service of the Ministry of Justice under the procedural guidance of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office.
