The counterintelligence division of the Security Service of Ukraine, in close cooperation with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, thwarted another attempt by the Russian Federation to obtain the coordinates of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' aviation infrastructure.
During a special operation in the Lviv region, an Air Force major was arrested, who turned out to be a Russian agent. The occupiers recruited him through his ex-wife, who works for the aggressor in Melitopol.
According to the case materials, the subversive activities of this "mole" were coordinated by FSB officer Alexander Belodedov.
The main task of the agent was to gather information about the Ukrainian military aviation. Specifically, the enemy was trying to obtain the coordinates of operational airfields, logistics hubs, and maintenance centers for the Ukrainian Armed Forces' combat aircraft.
If they had succeeded in obtaining the relevant geolocations, the occupiers hoped to deliver missile and drone strikes against them.
Employees of the SBU uncovered the "mole" in advance, documented his contacts with the Russian special services, and apprehended him.
The Security Service also conducted comprehensive measures to secure the locations of the Ukrainian troops.
Based on the collected evidence, SBU investigators charged the agent under part 2 of Article 28 and part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed by prior conspiracy of a group of persons in a state of war).
The offender is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
Additionally, his ex-wife, who is in the temporarily occupied southern part of Ukraine, has been charged in absentia with state treason during wartime.
The special operation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
