In broad daylight, a thief snatched a gold chain with a cross from a woman's neck, which was a family heirloom. Thanks to the swift actions of the police, the suspect was quickly identified and apprehended, and the stolen item was recovered. He now faces up to ten years in prison.
The Kyiv police received a call from a woman who reported that an unknown man had openly ripped a gold chain with a cross and icon from her neck in a park near a public transport stop and fled. The operational team was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Law enforcement officials discovered that the attacker was a 34-year-old resident of the capital, who had a history of criminal offenses. The victim, an 84-year-old woman, held significant sentimental value for the stolen cross as it was a keepsake from her mother. Despite the suspect having sold the jewelry, the police quickly tracked down the buyer and recovered the item as evidence.
The suspect was arrested under article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators have charged the perpetrator under part 4 of article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – robbery accompanied by violence and committed under martial law. At the request of the law enforcement, the court has ordered him to be held in custody without bail. The article's sanction carries a penalty of up to ten years in prison.
